The Ultium Cells Worker’s Guide to Hassle-Free Laundry in Youngstown

If you are one of the thousands of workers at the Ultium Cells plant in Lordstown, you already know the hours are long, the schedule is rotating, and the last thing you want to do on your day off is sit in a laundromat. Between 12-hour shifts, overtime, and the drive from wherever you are living around Youngstown, Warren, or Niles, every hour of free time counts. The Laundry Spot is set up to handle worker schedules like yours, with commercial machines that clean work clothes fast, free pickup and delivery so you never have to leave home, and hours that work around shift changes. Here is everything an Ultium Cells worker needs to know.

Why Work Clothes Are Harder to Clean

Plant work clothes pick up stuff that home washers cannot handle well. Battery manufacturing and EV assembly work exposes clothes to dust, light oils, solvents, and heavy sweat from working in climate-controlled spaces with lots of physical movement. Add rotating 12-hour shifts, and your work clothes need a cleaning routine that actually works, not a home washer that rewashes the same dirt back into your shirt.

Our commercial Huebsch washers run hotter water, stronger spin cycles, and more gentle but more thorough wash action than any residential machine. The 60 to 100 pound front-load washers are the same ones hotels and industrial laundries use. Your work clothes come out actually clean, which matters when you are wearing them 36 to 48 hours a week.

The Lordstown to Youngstown Drive

The Laundry Spot is about 20 minutes from the Ultium Cells plant in Lordstown, straight shot east on I-80 to Mahoning Avenue. For workers living in Warren, Niles, or north Youngstown, we are much closer, usually 10 to 15 minutes. There is free parking, a drive-up drop-off lane, and the location is right on Mahoning Ave which is easy to find.

If you are coming off a day shift around 6 or 7 PM, we are still open until 9 PM so you have time to drop off a bag or run a quick wash. Night shift workers can use us starting at 8 AM when we open, which is a better option than most laundromats that do not open until 9 or 10 AM.

Option 1: Self-Serve for Fast Turnaround

If you have about 75 minutes free, self-serve is the fastest way to a full load of clean clothes. A 40 pound washer fits a solid week's worth of work clothes plus casual clothes for $5.75. Dryers are time-based, so drying 40 pounds takes about 35 minutes at around $3 total. That gives you clean, dry, ready-to-wear laundry for about $8 start to finish.

Come in, load the washer, plug in your phone to charge on one of the free outlets, and run a few errands down Mahoning Ave or just sit and decompress with the free Wi-Fi and some coffee. Come back, move clothes to the dryer, grab dinner, come back one more time, fold at our tables, and go home.

Option 2: Drop Off Wash and Fold

If you do not even want to spend 75 minutes, drop your laundry at the counter in the morning, tell us you need it after your shift, and we will have it washed, dried, and folded when you come back. Per-pound pricing, no upcharge for heavy work clothes, and same-day turnaround for most loads dropped by 11 AM.

A lot of Ultium workers use this on their last day of a shift rotation. Drop off when you come in, pick up before you start the next rotation. Clean clothes for the whole cycle, total cost usually $15 to $25, no time spent sitting at a laundromat.

Option 3: Free Pickup and Delivery

The best option for workers with no free time: free pickup and delivery directly to your home. Schedule online at thelaundryspotmahoning.com or by phone at (234) 228-9481. Set your laundry bag at your door on your scheduled day, and we will pick it up, wash and dry it, and deliver it back within 24 to 48 hours.

No pickup fee, no delivery fee, no minimum. We serve Lordstown, Warren, Niles, Champion, Cortland, Hubbard, Girard, Austintown, Boardman, and anywhere else in the Mahoning Valley that Ultium workers are living. Weekly pickup schedules work especially well for rotating shift schedules, because you never have to think about laundry on your day off.

Work Boots, Gloves, and Other Gear

A quick note on the things that are not just clothes. Work gloves made of fabric or leather can go in our standard machines as long as there is no solid debris. Work boots should not go in any commercial washer, including ours. Insulated vests and jackets go in the 60 pound or larger washers with warm water and medium dry. Coveralls and mechanic-style work wear run through our industrial soil cycle, which is a separate wash program designed specifically for heavy workwear.

If you have something you are not sure about, call (234) 228-9481 before coming in. We would rather tell you up front than have you make the trip and find out we cannot handle it.

Hours That Work With Your Shift

We are open 8 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week, including holidays. Last wash cycle typically starts by 7:30 PM. For workers on a standard 6 AM to 6 PM day shift, that gives you time after work for a wash. For workers on 6 PM to 6 AM night shift, we are open right after your shift ends for drop-off. For workers on a rotating schedule, we are open on your sleep day, your off day, and all weekend.
